Cookie Policy

What cookies are, the small number we use on GoldenTrail, and how to set your preferences at any time.

Last updated: 1 June 2026

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember things between pages and visits — like the preferences you set. We also use similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage, which work in much the same way. In this policy we refer to them all as "cookies".

2. How & why we use them

GoldenTrail is an educational website, so we keep cookies to a minimum. We use them to:

  • keep the site working and secure;
  • remember the choices you make, such as your cookie preferences; and
  • understand, in aggregate, which guides are most useful so we can improve them.

We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles or to sell your data.

3. Cookie categories

We group the cookies we use into three categories.

Essential (always on)

These are necessary for the site to function — for example, remembering your cookie consent and keeping pages secure. They cannot be switched off and do not require your consent.

Preferences

These remember choices you make to give you a more comfortable experience, such as interface settings. They are optional.

Analytics

These help us understand how visitors use the site in aggregate — which pages are read, and how people move through our guides — so we can write better content. They are optional.

4. Third-party cookies

Some cookies may be set by trusted third-party providers we use to run the site, such as an analytics provider. Where we enable analytics, those cookies are only set if you allow the Analytics category below. We do not allow third parties to use cookies on our site for their own advertising.

5. Manage your preferences

Use the controls below to choose which optional cookies we may use. Your choice is stored locally in your browser under the key gt-cookie-consent — nothing is sent to a server, and clearing your browser storage will reset it.

6. Managing cookies in your browser

You can also control cookies through your browser settings — including blocking or deleting them. The exact steps differ by browser, but you will usually find the options under Settings, Privacy or Security:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.

Blocking all cookies may stop parts of this and other websites from working as intended. Essential cookies are needed for basic functionality.

7. Changes

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The current version will always appear on this page with the "Last updated" date revised. For how we handle personal information more broadly, see our Privacy Policy.
